Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, healthcare providers are required to offer individuals who are not enrolled in an insurance plan, or who are not using insurance, a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) of expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy. You have the right to receive a written GFE for the total anticipated cost of non-emergency services before starting therapy. You can also dispute a bill if it exceeds your estimate by at least $400.
